Is AI actually making money?

Yes, artificial intelligence is generating significant revenue, though financial returns vary widely across different tiers of the tech industry. Infrastructure and hardware providers like NVIDIA, along with hyperscale cloud platforms such as Microsoft Azure, AWS, and Google Cloud, are realizing immediate, massive profits by selling the essential compute, hardware, and API hosting services needed to train and run models. Enterprise software vendors are also successfully monetizing AI features through tiered monthly user subscriptions. However, many consumer-facing AI startups and model developers currently operate at significant net losses due to astronomical research, training, and operational inference compute costs. The industry is actively shifting from speculative experimentation toward sustainable, profitable enterprise deployment.
